Frequently Asked Questions
What is lawn patterning?
You may come across patterned lawns while watching a baseball game
or even a golfing event. You may have even asked the question, how
do they create those designs? Patterned lawn is a result of bending
grass a certain way so that light reflects differently off the blades
of grass. When looking at a patterned lawn, grass that is properly
bent away will look lighter and grass that is properly bent towards
will appear darker. The LAWN STRYPER ™ system allows you to
safely and easily pattern lawn just as the professionals do.
How does the LAWN STRYPER ™ system attach to my lawn
mower?
The LAWN STRYPER ™ system is designed to easily attach to walk-behind,
self-propelled and push lawn mowers. The patent pending clamping
system allows you to easily customize the system’s height,
width and angle in order to match up with your specific walk-behind
lawn mower.
When using the LAWN STRYPER ™ system, how do I choose
a pattern?
There are various common designs that are easy to try. A few examples
include straight line patterns, wave patterns, circle patterns,
and checkerboard patterns. Other more complex patterns such as star
patterns, logo patterns and double-up patterns are also possible.
Included with every LAWN STRYPER ™ system purchase is a full
color Lawn Patterning User’s Guide. This guide offers up some
general lawn care advice, great tips on patterning and a ‘how
to’ guide on several common patterns.
How long do the patterns remain on my grass?
Once a pattern is created, the length of time in which the visual
effect of that pattern will depend upon the growing conditions of
your grass. The faster your grass grows the less time the pattern
will be apparent. Usually by the time you need to cut your grass
again, a new pattern can be created.
Once attached, do I always have to use the LAWN STRYPER ™
system?
The LAWN STRYPER ™ roller assembly is specifically designed
for easy attachment and removal. Within seconds, one is able to
attach or remove the LAWN STRYPER ™ roller assembly from the
Hitch Tube system.
Can patterning damage my lawn?
The LAWN STRYPER ™ system is designed to properly ‘bend
grass’, after it has been cut, in order to create a pattern
effect. This “bending’ of grass allows light to reflect
differently, off the blades of grass, thus producing the effect.
S&B Lawn Systems does recommend changing mowing patterns every
few weeks. Variance in mowing patterns may improve your lawn’s
tolerance. You’ll find other lawn care tips and patterning
advice included with each LAWN STRYPER ™ system purchase.
How do I know that the LAWN STRYPER ™ system will
work on my grass?
Typically cool season grasses such as, but not limited to, Rye grass,
Fescue, and Bluegrass pattern more easily. Warm season grasses such
as Bermuda, St. Augustine and Zoysia do not pattern as well due
to their coarseness. S&B Lawn Systems, Inc. recommends that
you know what type of grass you have prior to patterning your lawn.
Please refer to the Zone Map, located below, as a reference.
Can I still use my bagging system?
Although not all walk behind mowers offer this option, the Lawn
Stryper system is designed to work with most bagging systems.
The LAWN STRYPER ™ cover is designed to protect the roller
when a ‘bagger’ is in use.
Can I still cut my grass while using the LAWN STRYPER ™
system?
The LAWN STRYPER ™ attachment should not interfere with normal
mower operations, such as cutting, mulching or bagging. The Lawn
Stryper system is designed to attach to and follow behind
your walk behind lawn mower during normal grass cutting operations.
Can I use the LAWN STRYPER ™ system on my riding mower?
The LAWN STRYPER ™ system, LM models, are specifically designed
for use on walk-behind, self-propelled and push type lawn mowers
ONLY. It is not designed nor should used on any other type of mower.
Does it take longer to cut my grass with the LAWN STRYPER ™
system?
The time it takes to create a basic pattern should not take much
longer than you would normally need to cut your grass. More complex
patterns, such as the checkerboard pattern, will take longer due
to the amount of time needed for additional turns, double cuts or
over-lapping. However, this extra time can be well worth.
Does the LAWN STRYPER ™ come in different colors?
The LAWN STRYPER ™ system is available in three different colors
to match your lawn mower. Color choices include red, green and black.
Does the LAWN STRYPER ™ system come with a warranty?
Each LAWN STRYPER ™ system comes with a limited time warranty.

Can I still make turns and back up with the LAWN STRYPER ™
system?

with your lawn mower. It is also designed to be able to back up
without it jackknifing.
Should I use the LAWN STRYPER ™ when my lawn is under
stress, is dormant, drought stricken or unhealthy?
It is important to have a healthy lawn in order to experience all
of the benefits of the LAWN STRYPER ™ system. Visual results
may vary based upon health of grass, length of grass, type of grass,
available sunlight and seasonal conditions. S&B Lawn Systems,
Inc. recommends that the LAWN STRYPER ™ attachment not be used
when grass is dormant or is under stress due to drought or disease.
